Squarespace and JaegerSloan on the Verge.

It is a rare occasion when we move from behind the camera to in front of it. However in the context of SMALL EMPIRES, we were glad to do our part. It was great to spend some time with Alexis Ohanian, the founder of Reddit and author of the new book Without Their Permission, producer Stephen Greenwood, and his talented crew discussing the merits of Squarespace and the democratization of design.

After working with Squarespace and using their platform to launch sites for some of our clients and for ourselves, we were asked to share our point of view on the product and how it impacts our business, including our shop, JnrlStr, and the work we did for Alder, Wylie Dufrense's take on the American gastropub. Watch for special appearances of Marvis Toothpaste and Paul Frances.

Squarespace: Create your own Space

NEW YORK, NY – June 17, 2013 – Squarespace, the leading all-in-one website publishing platform, today launched a brand campaign celebrating its talented and creative customers. The anthem spot, titled “Create Your Own Space”, emphasizes the flexibility of the platform by showcasing customers from creative industries spanning from architecture and e-commerce to publishing. The spot, along with five accompanying customer documentary-style features, is part of a fully integrated marketing campaign which includes digital, out-of-home, and social media components that will roll out later this month.

“Since launching Squarespace 6 last July, Squarespace has grown rapidly to hundreds of thousands of customers,” said Anthony Casalena, CEO and Founder of Squarespace “We’ve seen our customers achieve an unprecedented level of success with their websites. This campaign marks our initial push to introduce Squarespace to a more mainstream audience.”

This campaign was spearheaded by Squarespace’s Chief Creative Officer David Lee. The creative concept was developed by Squarespace’s in-house creative team in a unique collaboration with creative studio JaegerSloan.

“Squarespace is a powerful creative tool that allows anyone to create and customize their online presence so it truly represents who they are.” said David Lee. “The campaign echoes our belief that everyone deserves a piece of real estate on the world wide web that is their own.”

The commercials, created in 60-second and 30-second formats, can be viewed
